PROJECTS

RETEA CUPS

Product Designer

Retea Cups is a small, eco-conscious business founded by 3 students with a love for the environment and bubble tea.

As the product designer, I created a Wix-based e-commerce website for Retea to sell their hand-crafted, reusable bubble tea cups across Canada.

Within the first month of launching www.reteacups.ca, the COVID-impacted business's revenue increased by 560% and sold 6.5x more product than the month previous. In that time, the website also gained over 2000 unique site visitors.

EVERGREEN

Lead Researcher, UX Designer

Evergreen is a free, 6-month subscription-box style program aimed at fostering financial and emotional success for New Canadians. The final product consists of 5 physical packages (2 of which we created prototypes of), and a website. Completed over the course of 4 months, my role in this project was UX research lead, UX designer, and business report writer.

This was my capstone project, that I worked on with 4 group-mates, in the final term of my undergrad and was created as a solution for a problem Scotiabank FactoryU presented to us. The problem that we chose to tackle was advising Canadians on breaking the paycheque-to-paycheque cycle. 

FRAMAR

Project Manager & UX Designer

During my 4-month internship at Framar, two of my major projects were completely redesigning their e-commerce website and redoing the product photography. The two projects were combined into one.

 

This project started with my working on a simple redesign where I would be responsible for the designs but soon turned into a complex opportunity for me to manage two separate remote agencies. Together we completely redid the website, along with the product photography and implemented both within 5 months.

The final products were a responsive Shopify-based e-commerce website and over 300 photos of over 76 separate products.

BALZAC'S

Product Owner, UX Designer & UX Researcher

Over the span of 4 months, I worked on a 3-deliverable hybrid media project about the behaviour of Balzac's customers, and how to improve their visit.

The three deliverables:

  1. A print brochure showcasing the findings of 6 hrs of research conducted at the Stratford location.

  2. An "AR"-based Trivia App created to encourage a younger-demographic to come, sit, and learn about Balzac's, the city they're in and the artwork dedicated to that location.

  3. A community app created with 2 other teammates combining the trivia component along with an online ordering system to better the customer ordering process.

#BACB

UX/UI Designer

Bystanders Against Cyber-Bullying (#BACB) is a multimedia game designed to educate youth ages 8-12 about cyberbullying. The game itself includes an App, a physical game board and an AR character.

This project was a discovery on how to implement gamification to a younger demographic, understanding the differences in abilities/learning styles for youth, creating an ecosystem where a physical game board and digital app work together, and understanding mobile UX/UI.

Hi! Thanks so much for checking out my portfolio. Now that you've seen some projects I've worked on, you're probably wondering about who I am. Well without further ado:

I'm Aleena! I have a Bachelor of Global Business and Digital Arts from the University of Waterloo, and I'm currently working as a Freelance UX Designer. I consider myself a multi-disciplinary problem solver as I'm intrigued by the way the world works, and I chose to solve the many problems it holds through design, research, leadership, and more! My career goal is to work at a company whose main or side mission is solving problems relating to social good, where I can use my skill and passion to create change!

In my personal life, I'm an avid traveller. I was born in India and was on my first plane when I was 6 months old. Since then I've been on more planes than double my age! I also love animals, doing DIYs, and watching movies.

FREELANCE UX DESIGNER

Reep Green Solutions | Jul. 2019 - Present

  • Redesigning the current website with the goals of: decreasing load time, create a strong brand, improve consistency, usability and readability, consolidate information to present it more clearly on fewer pages and make it a better resource for users.

  • Analyzing current WordPress site with HotJar and Google Analytics to understand traffic, bounce-rates and see heatmaps to understand how users interact with the website.

  • Designing mid-fidelity wireframes of new webpages using Figma to showcase new information architecture to stakeholders (team leads and executive director).

  • Find existing WordPress themes that match the vision of the new website and use one to create a foundation, later customizing elements to fit the goals.

  • Use Astra theme and Elementor page builder to create a custom look.

FREELANCE UX DESIGNER

Retea Cups | Mar. 2020 - June 2020

  • Designed and built a small business’s first e-commerce website using Wix.

  • Upgraded from taking orders on a Google Form and doing only in-person meetups.

  • The business was heavily impacted by COVID-19, launching the website allowed them to get back to pre-COVID like sales.

  • 2000+ unique site visitors, 5.6x increase in revenue and 6.5x increase in products sold in the first month of launching the website in comparison to the month before.

MARKETING DIRECTOR

StarterHacks | May 2019 - May 2020

  • Managed a team of 4 marketing and 5 design coordinators.

  • Create a marketing plan for the year and set KPIs for marketing statistics.

  • In charge of all SH social media channels.

  • Goals for the year include: 3000 hacker applicants, hit 400 followers on Instagram, 1.5K likes on Facebook.

FREELANCE MARKETING AND PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

20 Mile Media | Sep. 2019 - Jan. 2020

  • Designed social media graphics using Figma and scheduled them on various platforms using Buffer.

  • Edited podcast episodes using Audition, and posted them using Anchor.

  • Goal was to create a brand, consistently push content, and increase podcast listeners.

  • Developed a brand using high-level guidelines for social media channels and graphics.

  • Designed and scheduled biweekly social media posts on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Twitter using Figma and Buffer.

  • Edited podcast episodes using Adobe Audition. Posted all episodes using Anchor and managed SEO for each.

  • Updated the Squarespace website to update content for each episode and guest.
